Yonkers Charter School Welcomes New CEO

Dr. Fred Hernandez

The Charter School of Educational Excellence (CSEE) has appointed Dr. Fred Hernandez as its new chief executive officer. Students, staff and school trustees will welcome Dr. Hernandez, a distinguished educational leader, during a special morning pep rally on September 20 at 9:30 a.m. on the high school’s sports field. The event will feature musical performances and giveaways for the students as the school community gathers to celebrate this significant occasion.

“Our school has tremendous momentum moving into the new academic year. Our graduating Class of 2024 received more than $9 million in scholarships, and we are beginning a program-enhancement effort that will propel our students to greater heights. We welcome Dr. Hernandez as we begin an exciting new chapter,” said Eduardo LaGuerre, chairman of the Board of Trustees.

Dr. Hernandez brings over three decades of experience in education, having served in Yonkers Public Schools as a teacher, assistant principal, principal, and central office administrator. He has led schools at every level—elementary, middle, and high school—transforming their governance, organization, instruction, and accountability systems to improve student outcomes.

“This charter school is a remarkable success story, and my goal is to empower our students to achieve their greatest potential academically and personally. The entire school community will collaborate to produce outstanding results,” said Dr. Hernandez.

In addition to his work as an educator, Dr. Hernandez is the owner/operator of Cognitive, LLC, an education consulting firm. He is a dedicated advocate of restorative practices, fostering collaboration among school staff, families, and communities to promote student academic and social-emotional growth. His leadership is recognized by multiple community-based organizations and the Child Study Center at Yale University.

Dr. Hernandez holds a Doctor of Education from Teachers College, Columbia University, and he has published works on school planning and management.

The pep rally will be held at 260 Warburton Ave., Yonkers, NY
