The Yonkers Chamber of Commerce Executive Board has named longtime regional business and chamber leader Lenny Caro as the economic development organization’s new president.
The Yonkers Chamber of Commerce will commemorate its 130th year anniversary in 2025. The appointment of Caro as president marks the first time a Latino has led the Chamber in that organization’s history.
Caro served as president and CEO of the Bronx Chamber of Commerce for 14 years, during which time he focused heavily on economic development, job creation and recruitment opportunities for businesses
Through an ongoing series of events organized by chamber leadership, Caro acted as a high-profile ambassador and advocate for local businesses, educational institutions and important nonprofits serving the community.
He actively worked towards the approval and construction of a new 46,537-seat stadium for the New York Yankees. That result paralleled the plan to redevelop a 222-acre waterfront site at the intersection of the Hutchinson Parkway and Whitestone Bridge, converting it into a 7,400-yard, Jack Nicklaus-designed public golf course.
More recently, Caro served as a business development executive and as the Chief of Government and Community Relations at Mercy University, strengthening the institution’s connections to business, government and employment opportunities for students and graduates.
“Yonkers Chamber of Commerce is a vital resource to our local businesses, and with Lenny’s expert knowledge and acumen, I am confident the Chamber will flourish,” said Yonkers Mayor Mike Spano. “We are excited to collaborate with Lenny and his team on how to best elevate our business owners and keep the City’s economic engine thriving.”
“It is my great honor to be selected by the Chamber Board. With the support of Mayor Mike Spano and his administration, the Yonkers Chamber of Commerce is going to be a growing force for business, job creation and economic prosperity for our region,” Caro said. “Yonkers is one of the safest cities in the nation, and it is a place that attracts people for a wide variety of reasons. Yonkers is blessed to have a growing medical and healthcare sector; it is attracting film production companies; and it is home to numerous tourism attractions like the amazing Empire City Casino by MGM Resorts, along with a countywide diversity of great dining and retail experiences.”
“We are very excited to welcome Lenny Caro to the City of Yonkers and as our new President of the Chamber of Commerce,” said Moira Kiernan, Yonkers Chamber of Commerce Chair. “His nearly 15 years of experience leading a significant regional Chamber, professionalism and insights will propel the organization to new heights.”
“Lenny Caro has had a long history of commitment to public service and helping business of all sizes succeed,” said Dr. Marsha Gordon, President and CEO of the Business Council of Westchester. “I look forward to working with him as he starts this new chapter in Yonkers.”
Current Chamber President Kevin Cacace will remain with the organization, transitioning to the role of treasurer.
