Mayor Mike Spano declared January 4th Nancy Maron Day in a proclamation presented at Yonkers Public Library (YPL)’s Riverfront Library earlier today. The Mayor, YPL trustees, library staff, family and friends assembled to witness YPL Board of Trustees President Nancy Maron receive the Velma K. Moore Award from Jean Currie, President of the Library Trustees Association Section (LTAS) of the New York Library Association (NYLA). This is a statewide award that has been presented annually since 1962 to a library trustee or board that has “made exemplary contributions to the development of library services in New York State.”

The award was presented with a $1,500 check, which Nancy donated to YPL in order to support library programs and services.

Nancy Maron first became a Trustee on the YPL Board of Trustees in 2012. In 2014, she was elected as President of the Board of Trustees, a role she still holds. During her tenure as a Trustee, Nancy has been responsible for many accomplishments and innovations, including:

Co-founding the Foundation for the Yonkers Public Library (FYPL) in late 2017. This organization helps raise vital funds for innovative programs and services, and is an important advocacy group when the library needs it. (FYPL just wrote YPL a check to support library programs! If you want to support it, donate here.)

Building consensus around the need for restoring the Will Library’s facade, a multimillion dollar capital project.

Crafting YPL’s first ever public Annual Reports as a means of showcasing and visualizing the library’s major successes.

Shepherding the library through two Five Year Plans of Service: the 2017-2021 Strategic Plan and the recently released 2023-2027 Strategic Plan.

Guiding the library through two director searches.Providing oversight and support to the library during the COVID-19 pandemic. Working with library staff through a rebranding campaign in 2023.

Congratulations!
