Yonkers High School football really shined Oct. 4 at the Roosevelt H.S. field. With a sold-out crowd, the Brave won the game on a last-minute touchdown by Cordei Gardner on a TD run.

Gardner rushed for 150 yards on 27 carries in the game. Another star in the game was the Brave’s Ryan Veras who, in addition to being the team’s starting quarterback, came up with two game-saving interceptions. The second interception snuffed out a potential game-tying touchdown when he got the ball at the Force’s 6-yard line with less than a minute to play in the game.

“My kids fought hard and I am very proud of them,” said Coach Chiappa.

What caused the Force so dearly was when star running back Tyler Hamilton had to leave the game with a leg injury; Hamilton had 70 yards on seven carries. The Force scored its only touchdown on a 9-yard pass from quarterback Colby Frias to Michael Odoley.

“It was a great event for the entire Yonkers community,” said Coach Dan DeMatteo. “I take my hat off to Vic and the Brave, they made the plays to win a great game!”
