Yonkers Boxer Zyon ‘Baby Tyson’ Duprey Honored

Congratulations to Zyon Duprey, aka “Baby Tyson” for recently winning a gold medal at the USA Boxing National Junior Olympics. In recognition of his success, Duprey was honored at Yonkers City Hall, and Mayor Mike Spano issued a proclamation that July 30 be ZYON ‘Baby Tyson’ DUPREY DAY.

The proclamation reads,

“As Mayor of the City of Yonkers, I am pleased to join with Yonkers Knockouts and Brother 2 Brother 914, in recognizing ZYON ‘Baby Tyson’ DUPREY on his recent achievement as a National Junior Olympic Champion at the USA Boxing National Junior Olympics held in Wichita, Kansas, and

WHEREAS: A Yonkers native, ZYON ‘Baby Tyson’ DUPREY age 14, won a Gold Medal, as well as the Most Outstanding Male Intermediate Boxer at the National Junior Olympics event, and

WHEREAS: ZYON ‘Baby Tyson’ DUPREY credits his victories and successes to the Coaches and Mentors at Yonkers Knockouts, especially his coach, trainer and mentor, John Morrison, who taught him not only the intricacies of boxing, but self-respect and respect for one another, and

WHEREAS: ZYON ‘Baby Tyson’ DUPREY competes in the 176 pound weight class and prior to his Olympic Win, compiled an impressive 5-1 boxing record with two wins coming by knockout; he was a co-featured Main Event at the Westchester’s Finest Boxing Show, held at the Grand Roosevelt Ballroom in Yonkers, and
WHEREAS: Through his involvement with Yonkers Knockouts, ZYON ‘Baby Tyson’ DUPREY focuses on all the positive changes he has made in his life and credits his Coaches and Mentors for putting him on the right path, and

WHEREAS: Yonkers Knockouts was established as a sanctuary for urban youth uplifting and empowering them and helping them to develop life skills; it specifically targets youth heading down a destructive pathway and assists them in controlling anger and positive ways to respond to challenges they face, and

WHEREAS: The City of Yonkers raises its voice in tribute to ZYON ‘Baby Tyson’ DUPREY on this occasion and congratulates him on such a prestigious victory.

NOW, THEREFORE I, MIKE SPANO, Mayor of the City of Yonkers, New York, do hereby proclaim this day the 30th day of July 2024 to be:

As the 2024 Summer Olympics are underway in Paris, we wonder if we will see Zyon Duprey competing for Olympic gold someday.
