Yonkers 13-Year-Old Caleb Sangster Becomes Honorary Knicks Coach Through Make-A-Wish and Garden of Dreams Foundation

On Dec. 5, the NY Knicks named 13- year old Yonkers native Caleb Sangster as an Honorary Coach for the night as a part of the Garden of Dreams Week initiative. At the game he was able to meet Knicks captain Jalen Brunson and the coaching staff, sit courtside during the pre-game shootaround, stand with the team during the Anthem, as well as be announced to the crowd along with the starting lineup.

Caleb, affiliated with Make-A-Wish Hudson Valley, has chronic granulomatous, disease primary immune deficiency disorder and had a stem cell transplant. While he was in recovery, watching the Knicks play helped him get through the recovery process.

Also featured at the game were an honorary PA Announcer, Musician, DJ, and game elements such as the halftime performance by young people of Garden of Dreams partner organizations.

Throughout Garden of Dreams Week, the Foundation continues to host various programming and events daily, raise awareness and raise funds in support of Garden of Dreams mission to provide life-changing opportunities to young people facing obstacles.

During “Garden of Dreams Week,” (Dec. 2-Dec. 7), the Garden of Dreams Foundation (GDF) will host programming and events, raise awareness and raise funds in support of Garden of Dreams’ mission to provide life-changing opportunities to young people facing obstacles that help shape their futures and create lasting joy. Young people and families from across the tri-state area from GDF partner with organizations including Covenant House, Harlem Dowling, Make-A-Wish, Maria Fareri Children’s Hospital, NYC Department of Homeless Services, NY Edge, SCAN-Harbor, SCO Family of Services, and WHEDCo, will participate in events throughout the week.
