YHS Football: Force Game Goes Down to Last Play; Brave Lose to Best Team in West.

Yonkers Force QB Atticus Oelkers hrows a long pass in last second loss to Fox Lane

By Phil Foley

This past weekend saw our Yonkers teams the Brave and the Force
fight very hard as they lost their battles but improved mightily! Last Friday night the Brave lost to last year’s New York State Champs New Rochelle HS 33-0.

The Force lost to Fox Lane HS 19-14 last Saturday night. The Yonkers teams are very young and by getting the much needed experience the future looks great for the future of our Yonkers teams. Especially with our Junior Varsity teams feeding players who know the teams system which can make for championship caliber teams in the future.

We are also very lucky to have two real great experienced head coaches in Vic Chiappa of the Brave and Anthony Fava of the Force.

In the Yonkers Force game versus Fox Lane Atticus Oelkers threw a 68 yard TD pass to Malachi Keels. Atticus also had a 2 yard TD run in the game! Defensively for the Force. Brian Espinal and Quadir Holmes anchored a defensive line in a strong defensive effort!

Coach Fava said after the game, “ The kids fought for every second of the game.We made costly mistakes that took the W away from us.We may have lost the game but we earned everyone’s respect with our tough play. We’ve made improvements each week this season, but now the toughest part of our schedule is ahead of us. There are no weeks off in Section AA.”

Yes the one thing to remember about this game with Fox Lane was that the Force had 4th and goal with 40 seconds left and got stopped by a good Fox Lane team who posted their 3rd win of the season. The Force play Scarsdale HS this Saturday at Roosevelt HS. Kick off is at 1:30 pm.

The Brave played a great team last Friday against the reigning State Champions! They are getting better! Coach Chiappa told me, “They played hard and they never gave up!”

The Brave travel to Port Chester HS this Saturday! Kick off is 1:30 pm.
