On Thursday, June 4, Westchester Jewish Community Services (WJCS) hosted its 6th Annual Holocaust Survivor Day Luncheon at Westchester Reform Temple in Scarsdale, NY. The event brought together nearly 50 Holocaust Survivors and 20 Second Generation Survivors living in the Westchester community, along with their family members and caregivers.
Allison Danzig, Coordinator of Holocaust Survivor Services at WJCS, said, “Today is about honoring Holocaust Survivors—their lives, their courage, their resilience, their extraordinary strength, and, most of all, their legacy. What they have built is strong, enduring, and deeply meaningful.”
The joy of being and celebrating together was evident to all those who attended. Cantor Susanne Katchko filled the room with Yiddish songs, which reminded the survivors of their heritage and music of their childhood. Holocaust Survivors’ Day is dedicated to celebrating the strength and impact of Holocaust Survivors. This day reminds us that the strength of American Judaism today is rooted in the courage of Holocaust survivors, whose determination to survive, rebuild their lives, and create a future made it possible for generations to follow—to learn, to remember, and to carry their legacy forward.
WJCS provides a wide array of services to Holocaust survivors in Westchester, including home-delivered kosher meals, support groups for Survivors as well as members of the Second Generation led by a skilled professional, home care coordination, and social activities that include holiday celebrations and outings to films, concerts, and shows.
