Most of us in the media had never heard about the 300 Bloodhound Brims Gang from Yonkers until June 17, 2021, when more than a dozen members of the gang violently assaulted and stomped a victim outside of a North Broadway bodega while they were filming a Rap Video.
The street corner where the attack took place, at North Broadway and Warburton Avenues, had several video surveillance cameras, which recorded the incident. Yonkers police quickly arrived and arrested five of the young men for the attack. Eventually, 16 young men, aged 16-23 years old, were charged, and most have now been sentenced to several years in jail.
The response to our first two stories on the 300 BHB was so great that we decided to read and learn more about how they came to be. To date, there has been little written about the gang. A few videos on YouTube do review their activities, including one video of interest from Rocky, who has good insight into this gang. His video can be found at

On Nov. 4, Westchester DA Mimi Rocah announced the sentencing of one member of 300 BHB. “Westchester County District Attorney Miriam E. Rocah announced that a member of the 300 Bloodhound Brims street gang faces five to 25 years in state prison for a violent gang assault in Yonkers. After a weeklong trial, on November 3, 2022, a jury found the defendant, Develle Coates, 20, guilty of Gang Assault in the First Degree, a violent felony, and Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Fourth Degree, a misdemeanor. The defendant is scheduled to be sentenced on December 2, 2022.
On June 17, 2021, at approximately 9 p.m., the defendant hit the 33-year-old victim in the head with a glass liquor bottle, rendering the victim unconscious, on North Broadway in Yonkers. The attack on the victim continued as various gang members and associates repeatedly struck and kicked the victim.
The victim, who was transported to Westchester Medical Center in Valhalla, suffered protracted disfigurement, facial scarring and was diagnosed with a traumatic brain injury.
The Yonkers Police Department arrested the defendant shortly after the incident and recovered a set of metal knuckles from the defendant’s waistband.
Twelve other individuals, including three under the age of 18, involved in the incident were arrested following a joint investigation by the Yonkers Police Department, the Westchester County District Attorney’s Office, the FBI’s Westchester Safe Streets Task Force, the Westchester County Department of Laboratories and Research, and the United States Office of Probation. “
The 12 co-defendants each pled guilty in this case. Nine have been sentenced and three are awaiting sentencing:

Former YPD Commissioner Mueller called the Bloodhound Brims, “one of Yonkers most violent gangs.” The 300 Bloodhound Brims gang originated in the Cottage Place Gardens Housing Complex in Yonkers. Some point the start date of the gang to 2016, following the death of their friend and fellow teen age thug Jerry Crawford, who died after a police chase through Yonkers in a stolen car that resulted in the death of another innocent driver.
Crawford may or may not have been a member of the gang, but after his death, the group coalesced into the 300 gang and began getting active as a way to honor him and enrich themselves, as well as to organize criminal activities better. Check out Crawford’s Facebook page in his memory to see how young, but extremely dangerous these guys are. https://www.facebook.com/Macdady2
In 2017 the 300 BHB made news after they were involved in a stabbing at the Ridge Hill movie theaters late one night. One movie theater employee was stabbed and later died.
300 BHB member Michael Pettiford was arrested, charged and convicted of 2nd degree murder, and is serving an 18-year sentence. Pettiford has called his gang members from Westchester County Jail bragging about his crime and the light sentence he received.
In 2019, 300 BHB member Jamir Thompson stole a gold chain at Grant Park in Yonkers. The victim of the crime found Thompson on Lake Avenue and chased him down. But Thompson pulled out a gun and attempted to shoot his victim but missed, killing an innocent bystander, 18 Marilyn Cotto-Montanez who died.
Thompson eventually turned himself in and was charged with 2nd degree murder and pled guilty. In 2021, the 17 year old Thompson was sentenced to 9.5 years in jail.
On June 10, 2021 on Elm Street and Oak Street in Yonkers, police found three victims of gunshots. Video surveillance on the street shows 300 BHB gang members involved in a drive by shooting on a group hanging out at the street corner. Four victims sustained gunshot injuries, and days later Yonkers police made three arrests.
Outside of Yonkers, in 2017, 16 year old Trevon Major shot and killed Joseph Smith in a Greenburgh apartment building after Trevon’s brother, Vance Major, robbed a cell phone and necklace. Trevor was sentenced to 15 years for the murder; his brother Vance was spotted at the 2021 gang assault-rap video in Yonkers because he was wearing a T-shirt calling for the release of his brother.
With so many 300 BHB members in jail or going to jail shortly, some believe that the gang has lost a number of key members.
But the Blood Hound Brims gang extends across New York City and the metropolitan area, and has operated since 2005, according to the FBI. And the BHB is a faction of the Bloods street gang, which operates nationwide, including here in Westchester.
Back in Yonkers, members of the 300 BHB are active on YouTube posting rap videos, called drill rap videos, bragging about their lives of crime. More on this in our next story.
