What to Expect When CS:GO Moves to Source 2?

The news about CS:GO’s potential transformation into the Source 2 engine pops up here and there all the time. It seems that Valve is preparing us for something huge. We can only guess what to expect from the upcoming changes. In this article, we will discuss what can happen in CS:GO Source 2 and how these things can affect the game. This is something you should know well whether you are a game enthusiast or a devoted better.

128 Tickrate in CS:GO Source 2

Transferring matchmaking servers to the 128-tickrate mechanism is one of the most awaşted things. A tickrate happens to be a trick where one data packet includes all information about future events on the special server. So, one second is split into 128 fragments, each of which is uploaded for players.

For a high tickrate, you require high FPS for all users and a fairly speedy WiFi. Otherwise, the server will end up processing empty packets. To be fair, 128 tickrate is better than 64 due to precise grenade throws and increased accuracy at a distance of 20+ meters.

MM in CS:GO: FACEIT Killer

Valve may overhaul the matchmaking mechanism inside CS:GO and make third-party services unnecessary. Even though the developer doesn’t plan to get rid of FACEIT, it will try to make it fair and convenient.

You face opponents of different ranks and try to defeat them and collect more points. There is a similar approach in FACEIT, although it uses Glicko’s “predecessor”, ELO, instead. FACEIT’s main benefit is the display of a vast amount of data.

New Anticheat in CS:GO

When wagering on CSGO results, security should always be in the center of attention. Everything works fine for Valve. The only thing that needs to be fixed is the community’s eternal critique vibe.

Once in a while a news piece appears to show a massive ban wave blocking thousands of cheater accounts from CS:GO. And these do not include the passive income of players who start the basic cheats they come across on Google. The existing VACNET mechanism runs on AI, where player actions can be explored properly.

Source 2 System Conditions

Source 2 is considered to be simpler and more compact than the 18-year-old Source 1. And it is much more convenient to work with it at the beginning. When Valve updates all the maps, introduces new skins, and makes improvements to lights/shaders/shadows, the average FPS will start declining. Everything won by switching to a better engine will be rolled back due to the high quality of the related updates.

Graphics and Other Visual Effects in Source 2

According to the latest data, the visuals of CS:GO are not going to change drastically. The game’s idea is realism, and Valve will stick to it as a primary mark of the brand. Overall texture quality will be improved, as well as other new effects (e.g. several light sources will be available at the same time), and much more. This is not very significant for the average users because we will increase FPS anyways.

Extra Maps on Source 2

Developers are working on maps with s2 prefixes, which mainly refer to the new CSGO engine. Interestingly, they stick to the original. This means that Valve cares about their player base, as there is no point in redesigning the existing work.

Every detail is going to be polished. However, technical bugs can’t be fully eliminated. So developers will need more time to deal with all the issues. It’s worth understanding that everything will not look right from the very beginning.

When Will Source 2 Be Introduced to the Public?

The developers haven’t revealed this information so far. So we have to wait for the announcement. What we know is that it is going to happen by the end of the year.

Considering the upcoming Paris Major from BLAST, the update won’t be released in the middle of the competition. Once it is over, the developers will move the entire player base to the new engine. This will be least painful for players and organizations. Even today CS:GO exists more on Source 1.5 than on a complete initial engine.

During the beta testing, players will have to deal with plenty of bugs, and other issues, which can be cleaned up. Most likely, players will not even realize the difference after the complete transformation.
