Two high school twins from Ardsley recently helped raise more than $1,400 to help fund a worthy cause.
Isabella and Alexandra Block, both seniors and varsity swimmers for Ardsley High School, came up with the idea of holding a swim-a-thon, with the proceeds going to Nursing Beyond Borders, a non-profit organization that sends nurses to some of the most impoverished communities and orphanages around the world.
By enlisting the help of nine of their teammates, the Block sisters set a goal of swimming 1,000 laps and raising $1,000. That goal was met and exceeded, with a total of $1,435 for the charity after completing 1,066 laps.
Nursing Beyond Borders is a 501(c)3 public charity that exists to deliver health care and education to children and their communities on a global scale. They focus on preventing disease before it starts by sending nurses to serve in our network of partnered orphanages, shelters, underserved schools, clinics and their surrounding communities. Through its focused health care initiatives and educational presentations, it empowers children and families to improve not only their own lives, but also to impact the lives of future generations.
More than 1 billion children are severely deprived of at least one of the essential goods or services they require to survive or grow and develop normally, including nutrition, water, sanitation facilities, access to basic health care services, adequate shelter, and education.
The money raised by Isabella and Alexandra will go a long way to help Nursing Beyond Borders serve those who need it most. Visit nursingbeyondborder.org for more information.
