“The staffer in question worked for the central staff of the Board of Legislators, which is the sole responsibility of the Chair of the Board,” Legislator Christopher Johnson

Westchester County Legislator Christopher Johnson, who serves as the Majority Leader for the democrats on the county board, responded to the news that Anand Singh, a former staff member for the BOL was fired after a YouTube video was posted showing him messaging, talking, and traveling to Newark New Jersey in the hopes of a sexual encounter with a 14 year old girl.

Legislator Johnson’s statement reads: “As a legislator, an educator, a Yonkers resident, and a father, I’m committed to protecting children from the clutches of predators. Like the public, I was appalled to learn that a Westchester government employee is accused of a heinous crime. Equally disturbing is Councilmember Williams’ shameful attempt to exploit this unfortunate situation with blatantly false and misleading claims.

“The staffer in question worked for the central staff of the Board of Legislators, which is the sole responsibility of the Chair of the Board.  Neither the Majority Leader nor any other legislator has or had individual direct hire/fire authority over central staff/committee coordinators. I became aware of these allegations only 30 minutes before the staffer in question was terminated from employment,” said Johson.

On April 17, Yonkerstimes.com reported that OBL Global, on their YouTube channel, caught Singh in a perverted exchange of texts, and phone calls with someone who he thought was a 14-year old girl. The incident ended with Singh traveling to Newark New Jersey at 1am, only to be confronted by OBL Global about his illegal interest in underage girls.

The incident was posted on YouTube April 11, but the incident occurred in Mid-December of 2022.

In her press release, Williams accused Johnson of prior knowledge of Singh’s incident, and an inquiry by the Westchester DA’s office. Clearly, Johnson denies the charge that he had prior knowledge in his statement above.

Johnson also went on to attack Williams for a prior incident that involved a staffer for Yonkers Mayor Mike Spano. Williams, at the time of the drunk driving arrest of Akeem Jamal in 2019, was serving on the Yonkres City Council. We don’t see the connection between the two incidents.

But the following questions remain that perhaps Johnson, or someone on the County Board can answer.

  • Who was aware of the Singh incident in December of 2022? Right now we know that Legislator Colin Smith made inquiries about the video after a livestream event showed Singh traveling to NJ for underage sex. We also know that several Westchester residents contacted someone in county government because they recognized Singh in the video.
  • Johnson stated that BOL Chair Catherine Borgia has the sole responsibility over staff at the BOL and of Singh, who worked on two BOL Committees. So we can infer that Borgia was involved in the decision to terminate Singh in April. Can we also infer that Legisltor Smith told her about the incident and his inquiry back in December?
  • Who else did either Borgia or Smith discuss this incident with? Williams accusation against Johnson come as a result of his leadership position as Majority Leader. Was he bypassed when this discussion was taking place?
  • Is it also true that the Westchester DA conducted an inquiry in Singh? We have also been told that some branch of law enforcement in Westchester was notified after the livestream in December. Which PD was contacted, and what if any investigation did they undertake?
  • The Westchester County PD emailed OBL and it founder Ramy, about the video after it was posted on YouTube April 11.
  • Why was the video livestreamed in mid-december 2022, and not posted on YouTube until April? Becuase Ramy and OBL Global were working on other sex stings and their YouTube page was shut down for a period of time. That is why there is a 100 days gap between when the video was livestreamed and when it was posted for all to see.
  • Who hired Singh to his position on staff at the BOL?
  • What did the BOL know, and do about Anand Singh during this time? We would love to know-email us at dmurphy@risingmediagroup.com if you can help solve this.

Note: Anand Singh lives in Elmsford. He worked for former City Council President Mike Khader in Yonkers from 2019-2021.
