Westchester County Executive George Latimer is honored to share that Dan Griffin of the Westchester County Service Agency, a Veteran himself, was honored earlier this month by the New York State American Legion as a Service Officer of the Year.

Latimer said: “During this past year and a half, Dan – like so many County employees – stepped up to show what true public service is. The job of the Veteran Service Agency is no easy task, and during a pandemic matters were complicated greatly. But Dan’s work earned that award and the County is proud of him for it. Dan served his Country admirably and now as a Veteran does the same for our County. Join me in thanking Dan for his service.”

The New York State American Legion Chapter is part of the greater network of American Legions, the nation’s largest wartime veteran’s organization. It was chartered and incorporated by Congress in 1919 as a patriotic veterans organization devoted to mutual helpfulness.

Griffin said: “This is an honor I am proud to receive, but I am even prouder of the work done by our office to assist Westchester County’s Veteran population. Westchester has a proud tradition of service honoring and assisting our Vets and we are honored to continue that legacy.”

The Westchester County Veterans Service Agency works year-round to ensure that veterans and their dependents receive the maximum benefits from the federal Department of Veterans Affairs and other agencies at all levels of government. Veteran Service Agency Director Ron Tocci said: “Dan is a dedicated public servant as he was a dedicated service member. This award is a testament to that steadfast dedication.”
