Westchester County to Contribute Nearly $10M for the Development of 160 Affordable Housing Units at 632-636 South Broadway in Yonkers

Proving that creating affordable housing opportunities across Westchester remains a top priority, County Executive Ken Jenkins signed legislation for the construction of 160 affordable rental units at 632-636 South Broadway in Yonkers. Westchester County will contribute $5.9M in land acquisition, and more than $4M in infrastructure funding – a total of nearly $10M – for the development of 160 apartments and 146 parking spaces, in addition to new ramps, signage, landscaping, waterproofing and drainage, electrical and fire suppression systems, and other infrastructure improvements. The legislation package signed by Jenkins is in partnership with the Westchester County Board of Legislators, the City of Yonkers and Macquesten Development, LLC. Additional funding for the development will be provided by various entities of New York State and the City of Yonkers.
The 16-story development will include a variety of apartments including seven studios, 69 one-bedroom, 64 two-bedroom, and 20 three-bedroom units. The properties will be designated for households earning at or below 50% and up to 80% of the Westchester County Area Median Income (AMI).
Jenkins said: “We are continuing on our path to create as many affordable housing opportunities as possible in Westchester. Every member of our community should have the right to make a home here, and housing needs to be available at a price point that all people can afford. I want to thank our partners at the City of Yonkers as well as Macquesten Development for their commitment to this project, which will affirmatively further fair housing in our communities. This legislation is filling a critical need, and when we allocate significant funding for these kinds of projects, we are helping to improve the quality of life for our residents and families.”

Legislator José Alvarado said: “Here in Yonkers, and especially in Southwest Yonkers, we continue to push for affordable housing and workforce housing. We ask the rest of Westchester County to do the same. I have always been a true believer in the potential of South Broadway, and these additional 160 units of housing should complement that not-yet-reached potential.”

Executive Vice President of Macquesten Development, LLC Joseph Apicella said: “This project will be an iconic statement for the Yonkers and NYC gateways, replacing a defunct former car dealership with beautiful 16 story high-end workforce housing.”
