March is American Red Cross Month
On March 7, Westchester County Executive George Latimer honored the Westchester Chapter of the American Red Cross with a proclamation presentation. March is designated as American Red Cross Month to recognize local volunteers and donors to give of their time and resources to help community members in need, delivering hope and help during disaster.
Latimer said: “The American Red Cross responds to disaster big and small, by providing shelter, food, emotional support and other necessities to those affected. In Westchester, we know these volunteers are committed and dedicated to helping neighbors get back on their feet or navigate through difficult times. We are proud to recognize their continued efforts during the month of March and always.”
American Red Cross Metro New York North Chapter CEO Stephanie Ashley Dunn said: “When emergencies strike, American Red Cross volunteers springs into action with relief, care, and hope — whenever and wherever they are needed. As we honor of these heroes during our Red Cross Month celebration, we ask our neighbors in Westchester to join us to provide help and hope by making a donation, giving blood, volunteering or learning lifesaving skills.”
Latimer also recognized the efforts of The Red Cross Metro New York North Chapter’s Disaster Response Team. The group was essential in its response to Hurricane Ida, rushing to deliver urgent relief to neighbors coping with loss and trauma. In the past year alone, the Red Cross Metro New York Chapter responded to nearly 150 local disasters. They installed 369 free smoke alarms and educated nearly 700 adults and children in emergency preparedness. In our area the Red Cross provided over 700 services to military members, veterans and families last year and collects on average 7,000 units of blood from our generous blood donors.
