Westchester County Cop Stops Car Theft at Lexus Dealership; Two Arrests Made, One Suspect at Large

Great police work by Westchester County Police officer Dave Sanchez on April 28 helped stop a car theft from a Lexus dealership on Kisco Avenue in Mt. Kisco. While on patrol about 12:40 a.m., Officer Sanchez observed a suspicious vehicle at a Lexus dealership on Kisco Avenue. He attempted a traffic stop as the vehicle left the dealership but the driver refused to stop. Near West Main Street and Maple Avenue, the driver lost control and struck a guiderail. Three men jumped out of the vehicle and fled.

Officer Sanchez was able to take two of the suspects into custody quickly. A search was commenced by Westchester County and Bedford police officers for the third suspect, who was last seen running on the Metro-North railroad tracks near the Mount Kisco train station.  Service on Metro-North in the area was suspended while the search was conducted. That suspect remains at large and an investigation is continuing to determine his identity.

The vehicle recovered had been stolen from another dealership in the village a short time earlier. Amaury Madera, 40, of Hollywood, Florida, and Rafael Cornielle, 33, of Otis Avenue, Bronx, were charged with Criminal Possession of Stolen Property 4th Degree, a felony. Madera, the driver, was also charged with Fleeing a Police Officer in a Motor Vehicle and Aggravated Unlicensed Operation, misdemeanors.

Both were released on desk appearance tickets are due in Mount Kisco Justice Court on May 12.
