Shanae Williams has served as a councilmember, in the first district, for the past 5 years.
We appreciate her efforts to tackle difficult issues, like the homeless problem in Yonkers.
We respect her decision to seek higher political office, and not listen to the naysayers. Williams almost defeated Tim Idoni for County Clerk two years ago and this year, she defeated Christopher Johnson in the democratic primary for county board in the 16th district.
Williams strikes a reasonable balance between advocating for the issues and concerns of her constituents, while at the same time working together on the council and with Mayor Spano to continue moving the city forward.
Willams opponent is republican Debbie Kozak. Kozak has been actively campaigning, and we see her name on the ballot as an example of how the republican party in Yonkers is working to expand and run more candidates.
We endorse Shanae Williams for County Legislator, 16th District.
