We Endorse: Jen Williams, Assembly 92nd District

Jen Williams

Rising newspapers endorses Jen Wililams, in the democratic primary on June 23 for Assembly in the 92nd District, which includes the towns of Greenburgh and Mt. Pleasant. Williams is challenging Assemblyman Tom Abinanti, who has served on the County Board and now as Assemblyman for more than twenty years.
We knew nothing about Jen Williams, or this primary, until Williams spoke out about being sued by Abinanti to keep her off the ballot for a technicality in her petition. The courts ruled against Abinanti as he continued to appeal their decisions. We also found it in bad taste for Abinanti and his wife to personally tape the lawsuit to the Williams door in April, when the Coronavirus was at epidemic levels.
For Williams, it provided her an opportunity to introduce her to the voters. What we have found is Williams to be deeply involved in her community, helping and serving others. She has the enthusiasm, energy and intelligence to serve.
“I have fought for my seat at the table. I pulled out my own seat and sat down without asking for permission,” said Williams, whose journey to get on the ballot is indicative of how difficult it is for outsiders to run for office in Westchester, and in New York. We should encourage more people to run for office.
Williams has also addressed issues of concern during the campaign, including support for vaccinations and more support for small businesses, which she has first hand experience. We need more transparency in Albany, and Williams will provide that, and can use all of the obstacles placed before her to serve the people of the 92nd Assembly District.

We endorse Jen Williams in the demomcratic primary June 23. Sometimes, a fresh voice adds to the debate, and in New York State, we will need to reassess almost everything as we head into uncertain times.
