Rising Newspapers endorses Congressman Eliot Engel for re-election in the democratic primary June 23 in the 16th District, which includes Yonkers, lower -mid Westchester and parts of the Bronx.
Engel has served his constituents well over his 32 years in Washington. He is a respected member of the leadership in the House, led by Speaker Nancy Pelosi, and has used his seniority to help the district with needed Federal funding. During the pandemic, Congressman Engel delivered $5B for New York hospitals, $76 million for community health centers and $400 million for COVID-19 relief for nursing homes, a hot spot for deaths in NY.
Engel enjoys strong support from African-American leaders including members of the Congressional Black Caucus, Deputy County Executive Ken Jenkins, and State Senate Majority Leader Andrea Stewart-Cousins.
Engel also has strong support for women’s rights groups and has been endorsed by NARAL Pro Choice America, Planned Parenthood Action Fund, ProChoice Voter and the National Organization of Women PAC. County Executive George Latimer, Yonkers Mayor Mike Spano and New Rochelle Mayor Noam Bramson also support Engel’s re-election, as we do.
As Chair of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, Engel continues to speak out against injustice across the world and against Trump administration when he sees fit.
Engel’s opponents, Jamall Bowman, Chris Fink and Sammy Ravello, have not provided a compelling reason why Engel should not be re-elected. We endorse Eliot Engel for re-election to Congress in the 17th district June 23 in the democratic primary.
