On Saturday evening, June 7, multiple award-winning violinist/vocalist Lisa Gutkin and double bassist Brian Glassman will play at Westchester Collaborative Theater (WCT)’s Music in the Box series at 7:30 pm. They will perform Klezmer inflected music and delve into other genres.
Lisa Gutkin has crafted a courageously varied artistic career by bringing an instantly relatable style to audiences through her theater, music, and storytelling. Recognized for her work as violinist and vocalist for the ground breaking Jewish Roots band, The Klezmatics, and as fi ddler for the “Downtown” Celtic
band Whirligig, she is also known for her scoring, performance, and music direction in the two time Tony award-winning play, Indecent. Gutkin had an on screen cameo and compositions featured in Sex and the City; has performed in Sting’s Broadway musical The Last Ship, and her song “Gonna Get Through This World” – with words by Woody Guthrie – was hailed by Pete Seeger as “a piece of genius.”
Glassman is a master of many musical genres: classical, rock, Latin, R&B, cabaret and is renowned for his work in jazz and klezmer. He has performed with many legendary stars of jazz including John and Bucky Pizzarelli and Lionel Hampton and such artists as Liza Minnelli, Anne Hampton Callaway, and Stephen Schwartz. He has performed nationwide and throughout the world as an honored Musical Ambassador for The U.S. Dept. of State. He was named one of the world’s 100 most important Klezmer Musicians by The Museum at Eldridge Street.
