Wartburg, a premiere senior residential and health care facility in lower Westchester County, now offers a car for real-life training in its state-of-the-art rehabilitation building. The addition of a car to complement Wartburg’s “Real Life Training” apartment will help patients learn safe transfer in and out of a car – giving them the confidence they need to return to their lives faster and healthier.
Wartburg boasts Westchester’s only freestanding rehabilitation center with all private rooms and baths. Part of its innovative rehabilitative care is a “Real Life Training” apartment with a living/dining room, kitchen, bedroom and bath. Patients perform activities of daily living like getting in and out of bed or the shower, or placing items in and out of the washing machine/dryer to ensure a safe return home.
The car allows for patients to do the same with activities outside of the home that involve using a car.
“Although Westchester County is near urban areas, most people rely on their cars to get around,” said Dr. David Gentner, Wartburg president and CEO. This addition to Wartburg’s rehabilitation center is important for our patients who, like most in our community, rely on their car to get around.”
Wartburg was able to purchase a Smart Car thanks to a gift from Wartburg Foundation Board member Mark Jacobs.
“I am proud to be able to partner with Wartburg on acquiring a car for their rehabilitation center,” said Jacobs. “Wartburg has a long history of innovative care for those recovering from an injury or illness and I feel it is important to support this worthy organization to continue the vital care provided to our community.”
“We are so thankful to Mark for his benevolence, as well as his time as a board member,” said Angela Ciminello, vice president of development and marketing at Wartburg. “We could not have done this without him, and his support will make a significant difference in the lives of those entrusted to our care.”
