A brutal bar fight that spilled out onto Yonkers Avenue on October 25 and was caught on video has the community abuzz for many reasons. The first is the sheer brutality of the fight, which ended up with one man almost being stomped to death outside the Corrib Tavern, on the corner of Yonkers Ave and Ridgewood street.

Yonkers Police arrested two men who are brothers for the violent assault. Jonathan Tellin, 26 and Felix Tellin, 22, were arrested and were later arraigned and charged with Felony assault.

The victim has not and will not be identified, but although taking a massive beating, he will survive, sparing the brothers of a murder charge.

The Yonkers police issued two releases concerning the incident: “Last night (Oct 25), at approximately 6:25 PM, members of the Yonkers Police Department responded to the area of Yonkers Avenue at Ridgewood Avenue on a report of street fight. Upon arrival officers observed two men assaulting one; both suspects were placed under arrest and the victim was transported to a local area trauma center.

“Investigation yielded that several men were patronizing a local bar and engaged in a dispute outside; that dispute escalated to physical violence. It is alleged that the victim was punched and kicked multiple times, including  being kicked in the head while on the ground. The men appear to be known to each other and possibly related.

“Charged with felony assault is Jonathan TEELIN, a 26-year-old resident of Mount Kisco; and his brother Felix TEELIN, a 22-year-old resident of Hastings-On-Hudson. Both men are expected to be arraigned later today. The victim, a 26-year-old resident of Yonkers, suffered non-life threatening injuries and is expected to recover. The Yonkers Police administration is also conducting an internal inquiry into the initial police response.”

Shortly after the incident, the YPD stated, “The Yonkers Police sergeant who initially responded has had her duty status modified and placed in an administrative capacity pending the outcome of the internal investigation. The Yonkers Police Department trains and expects its members to respond and take the appropriate and necessary actions in situations like these, and it is apparent from the video that did not happen; due process will determine why. We hold ourselves and our members accountable and will take steps to maintain the highest standards and professionalism.”

We have also learned that the three men are involved in some type of loosely held gang, or “Tinkers” an old Irish term connotating Gypsies. The group meets at bars and participates in gambling and other shady enterprises.

The Police Sergeant in question is Amy Kielb. Opinions are mixed at to whether Sgt. Kielb should have used a Tazer on the fighters, or even drawn her gun to get the men to stop when the stomping began. Some of our friends who enjoy a beer at the bar now and again also wondered what they would do if they saw such a beating.

We have also heard that the victim will cooperate, which will result in serious charging coming soon from the DA against the Tillin brothers.
