NYS Senate Majority Leader Andrea Stewart-Cousins with Judge Veronica Hummel

Senate Majority Leader Andrea Stewart-Cousins announced that Veronica Hummel of Hastings-On-Hudson has been confirmed by the State Senate as a Judge for the NYS Court of Claims.

“Veronica Hummel has amazing qualifications and, as one of my constituents, I was proud to recommend her and am delighted that her nomination was advanced by Governor Cuomo and confirmed by the full State Senate. I congratulate Ms. Hummel and wish her luck as a Judge for the Court of Claims,” Senate Majority Leader Andrea Stewart-Cousins said.

Hummel has been the Principal Court Attorney in White Plains for New York State Supreme Court Judge Lawrence Ecker since 2018. In that capacity, she advised the judge on research issues and appropriate course of action in cases. She drafted opinions, participated in settlement conferences, and reviewed documents and pleadings in a wide inventory of cases.

Prior to that, she was the Principal Court Attorney for Westchester County Court Judge Barbara Zambelli and was previously Principal Court Attorney for Supreme Court Judge Edward Lehner in New York City.
During the height of the COVID-19 pandemic in Westchester, Hummel volunteered week after week with Hillside Outreach Food Pantry, delivering food and inspiring others to contribute. She was recognized for her efforts and named a “District 35 Hero” by the Majority Leader.

Hummel received her JD from Albany Law School, where she was awarded a full tuition scholarship based on her academic performance. She then received her LL.M. degree (Academic Study of Law) from Columbia Law School where she was the Associate Editor of the Columbia Business Law Review. She earned her undergraduate degree at the University of Massachusetts where she graduated Cum Laude, Phi Beta Kappa.
