Trip Advisor, the largest social travel website in the world, has recently named Untermyer Gardens the number-one attraction in Westchester County.
“For several years, the garden has been in the number two or three position, usually after Kykuit and Lyndhurst, so this is a thrilling and surprising development,” said Stephen Byrns, president of the Untermyer Gardens Conservancy, which has operated in a public-private partnership with the City of Yonkers since 2011. “Untermyer has been an underdog for years, so it is wonderful to see this recognition. Credit goes to the hard work of the entire Untermyer team.”
Testimonials from people all over the country give glowing reviews of the magnificent design, sophisticated horticulture, spectacular views and fascinating history of Untermyer Gardens. Many people, including Yonkers residents, have just recently discovered it and called it the crown jewel of Yonkers.
“Yonkers’s hidden gem is no longer a secret,” said Yonkers Mayor Mike Spano. “Untermyer Gardens has a rich history with picturesque views and landscapes that are unparalleled, making it a true treasure for our city. Special thanks to the Untermyer Gardens Conservancy and Steve Byrns for their investment and breathing new life into a regional destination for all to enjoy.”
Untermyer Gardens last year had 75,000 visitors, and is currently the subject of a profile in the September issue of Elle Décor magazine.
