Two Men Indicted for the Murder of Mt. Vernon Resident Aaliyah Waiters

On Nov. 12, Westchester County District Attorney Miriam E. Rocah announced that New Rochelle residents Tyquan Carcamo and Laquan Jones were indicted for the shooting death of 20-year-old Aaliyah Waiters.

Carcamo, 20, and Jones, 21, were both indicted by a Westchester County Grand Jury for Murder in the Second Degree and Criminal Possession of a Weapon, both felonies. The defendants were arraigned on November 12, 2021, and are currently being held without bail.

The defendants face a maximum sentence of 25 years to life in prison.

The shooting took place on September 25, 2021, in Mount Vernon. Waiters, a Mount Vernon resident, was transported to Jacobi Hospital in the Bronx, where she died several days later. The shooting took place on South Third Avenue in Mt. Vernon at 2:30 a.m.

Mount Vernon Police arrested Carcamo and Jones on October 25, 2021, following a joint investigation with the Westchester Department of Public Safety, New Rochelle Police Department, and FBI’s Westchester Safe Streets Task Force, as part of the Gun and Gang Initiative, launched by the District Attorney’s Office in August.

The case is before Judge Robert Neary in Westchester County Court, and is being prosecuted by the Violent Criminal Enterprise Bureau.

No arrests have been made as Mt. Vernon Police continue their investigation. Mount Vernon Mayor Shawyn Patterson-Howard releassed a statement mourning Waiters’ death, and adding that she heard the gunshots in the middle of Saturday near her home.
