Two Handguns Found in BMW Flying on Cross County

Arrests Made by Westchester County PD & Yonkers PD

Two guns are off the street and a stolen car recovered thanks to some great teamwork by WCPD Patrol officers and partners in the wee hours earlier this week.

At 1:44 a.m. on Tuesday, a WCPD officer was stationary alongside the northbound Bronx River Parkway when a BMW sedan flew by at a high rate of speed. The vehicle entered the Cross County Parkway westbound where the officer made a traffic stop.

When the officer approached the vehicle, the driver sped away and fled southbound on the BRP. The BMW exited on to Bronx River Road, made a U-turn in a parking lot and then struck two parked cars upon exiting. The driver and a passenger jumped out and fled on foot, running in separate directions both on the parkway itself or adjacent to it.

Multiple WCPD and Yonkers Police Department officers had responded to the area along with an NYPD patrol car. In short order, the driver was apprehended by the NYPD and County Police while the passenger was apprehended by Yonkers PD.

Two handguns were found in the BMW, which had been reported stolen a short time earlier in the Bronx.

The driver and passenger, ages 18 and 21, are facing a variety of charges, including criminal possession of a weapon and criminal possession of stolen property, felonies. The driver is additionally charged with Fleeing an Officer in a Motor Vehicle and Reckless Driving, misdemeanors.

After arraignment in Yonkers City Court, the suspects were turned over to the NYPD. Due to a continuing NYPD investigation we are not identifying them at this time.
