The third annual Michael Nolan Softball Tournament was held July 21 at Cook Field. It was another opportunity for the Yonkers community to join together and remember Michael Nolan in a meaningful way. The day of softball and other family-friendly events helped raise funds for The Michael Nolan Scholarship Fund.
Twenty-two teams gathered for a day of softball, representing different groups or friends of the Nolan family, including teams from the Yonkers Police Department, Yonkers Fire Department, and Westchester County Police. The men’s winning team was “SBS,” and the co-ed winning team was from Tara’s Restaurant.
After his unfortunate death as an innocent bystander from a drive-by shooting in Yonkers in 2015, Nolan’s family donated his organs for transplant patients. Some of those organ recipients were in attendance last week, including Jerry Bosco and his family. Jerry received
Michael’s pancreas, and it is wonderful to see the two families together, with the Nolan’s continuing their work to remember Michael and advocate for a safer community so this tragedy doesn’t happen to another family.
The Michael Nolan Scholarship Fund also works for gun buyback programs in Yonkers and across Westchester, and is pushing for a statewide law on drag racing. For more information, visit michaelnolanmemorialfund.org.
