On August 28, TheMothers 2016 gathered at Yonkers City Hall for their annual “Light the Sky” Butterfly Release Ceremony “Light the Sky.” The Butterfly Release Ceremony is in memory of the children who were lost under various circumstances. The Mothers2016 is a diverse group of mothers, living with the impact, effect and aftermath of one of life’s most devastating events.

The Mothers that spoke – Hope Hollinsworth Coaxum, Clarissa Keith, Michelle Degree, Nancy Khader-Maldonado, Jeni Wallace, Shantel Byrd, Robin Mckeithen, Carolyn Newton, and one father spoke – Warren Shealy.
Two singers Liz Cooney and Zaina Shleiwet provided a musical interlude.
This event has been held for the past 4 years, including through the pandemic last year. The Mothers2016 was founded by Hope Hollinsworth Coaxum and Lisa Clark- Norman.
The Mothers2016 want to continually support, embrace and encourage one another and others who have endured this life changing experience, to create collaborative partnerships with like-minded organizations, groups and families who have been affected by the loss of a child.
