Symphony of Westchester Closes Season May 9 with Final Chance to See the Orchestra This Year

The Symphony of Westchester will close its 2025-2026 season on Saturday, May 9, 2026 at 8:00 p.m. with an All Romantic Music Program at Christopher J. Murphy Auditorium in the Murphy Science Building at Iona University.

The performance is the final chance for audiences to see the Symphony this season, capping a year that combined strong performances with audience-friendly programming, student collaboration, and visible community support.

The season included family-focused touches like the Symphony’s harpsichord petting zoo, a side-by-side collaboration with New Rochelle High School’s PAVE Orchestra, and continued recognition from Congressman George Latimer, who has publicly praised Maestro Barry Charles Hoffman and the Symphony for their contributions to the cultural life of the region. That recognition also figured prominently during the Symphony’s recent Young Artist Competition Showcase Concert, which featured six prize-winning soloists and drew a strong audience at Iona University.

“This season has shown what makes live orchestral music matter,” said Hoffman. “We’ve had exciting performances, strong support from the community, and meaningful opportunities to connect with younger musicians and new audiences. We’re proud of what this season has been, and we’re looking forward to closing it with a program that brings real passion, sweep, and beauty to the stage.”

That impact was felt by student musicians as well. After performing with the Symphony, one New Rochelle High School orchestra student described the experience as “life changing,” saying it strengthened their confidence and sharpened their sense of what performing at a high level can be.

For local audiences, the May 9 concert is both a season finale and the last live Symphony of Westchester performance until the next season begins.
