There is growing speculation that Steph Curry and Kevin Durant could once again be reunited, with talk of a possible trade between the Golden State Warriors and the Brooklyn Nets becoming incessant.
The pair played together between 2016 and 2019, during which time the Dubs won two NBA titles, and by all accounts, 33-year-old Durant is considering his options after a less than spectacular season with the Nets ended with a limp first-round play-off defeat (coming in the form of a humiliating 4-0 loss to the resurgent Boston Celtics).
Such a move would certainly affect the odds displayed at online sports betting sites in New Jersey and elsewhere and could arguably make the Warriors, the reigning NBA champions, damn-near untouchable.
On the subject of a possible move to bring in Durant, Curry stated;
“The rumor mill and all that stuff is part of the nature of the NBA and league,”
“You take it for what it is.”
“You know how quickly things can change, but I like where we’re at.”
Indeed given the way in which the Golden State Warriors slew all before them last season, there may not be a pressing need to bring in big names. The core of players that Steve Kerr can call upon, with Klay Thompson looking good after his lengthy injury issues and the likes of Draymond Green, Jordan Poole, Andrew Wiggins, and Jonathan Kuminga all playing their part in the title triumph, might negate the need to alter things too drastically at the Chase Center.
From the point of view of Durant, his future at the Nets is apparently tied in with that of Kyrie Irving and also apparent issues with the Nets organization.
“I just have to let things play out and see what happens. Keep the regular contact with Ky and see what happens. Basketball is obviously the most important thing, but I try not to let that get in the way of somebody else’s personal decision. Like I said, whatever happens, the friendship will still be there,” Durant stated in a recent interview.
Durant’s affection for Curry and any potential desire to team up with his former team-mate is clearly strong, and the way in which he sang the praises of the four-time NBA champion after the 2022 finals shows just how much respect he has for the 34-year-old;
“That Game 4 was iconic to me,”
“It’s like much more than just the win; that game right there was just like, alright, this is one of the greatest we’ve ever seen. And in that environment and the shots he was making … and the rebounds, though. It was the rebounds for me, ’cause playing with Steph, that’s how I know he’s super, super engaged when he’s on the boards heavy. Coming over somebody’s back … so it’s just like, he really wants this.”
The friendship between the pair is still incredibly strong, but one wonders if a move to see the pair team up again might not be on the cards just yet.
