State Senator Peter Harckham announced his reelection campaign at the end of February, in the newly formed 42nd Senate District, having served previously in the 40th Senate District.
“The last two years have been incredibly difficult for all of us. But I am proud to say that my team and I have been with you every step of the way.We helped thousands of families get unemployment benefits; we held 11 food drives, four blood drives and a winter coat drive; and we distributed thousands of masks and test kits to our under-served communities. Also, we passed record increases in education funding and held taxes down. During the pandemic, we funded small businesses while helping tenants and homeowners behind on payments. And I delivered over $1.6 million to our local first responders for public safety upgrades. Many of my legislative accomplishments include passing landmark legislation to expand Pre-K, address the opioid crisis, fight climate change and protect our fragile drinking water supplies. There’s much more to be done, and I am ready for the challenges ahead! That is why I am proud to say today that I am running for another term as your New York State Senator. If we have learned anything over the last two years, it is this: if we work together, we can accomplish great things to make New York fairer, safer and more affordable,” said Sen. Harckham in his announcement.
Harckham has served four years in the State Senate, defeating former State Senator Terrence Murphy and former County Executive Rob Astorino. No republican has been announced to challenge Harckham, but petitions are going out in early March, so we will know soon if he has any opposition.
Harckham also has the endorsement of the Working Families Party.
