This year’s theme, “Moving Forward Together! Women, Education and Inspiring Generations,” was highlighted through the panel titled “Leading in a Challenging Time.”
Majority Leader Stewart-Cousins and Senator Mayer were pleased to feature five local leaders who shared their insights on guiding their communities and inspiring others to envision a better future despite the obstacles they encounter.
The panelists included Maritza Fasack, Founder of the Women United of Westchester Social Club (WUW); Jirandy Martinez, Executive Director of the Community Resource Center; Eileen O’Connor, Co-Founder and Leader of NYCD16; Kate Permut, Chair of the Westchester Women’s Agenda; and Javon M. Trottman-Floyd, Chief Operating Officer of the YWCA of White Plains and Central Westchester.
Senate Majority Leader Andrea Stewart-Cousins said, “It is always the right time to celebrate all that women have achieved and contributed in our world, but especially so in these uncertain times as our hard-fought rights are under attack. The journeys and accomplishments of this panel of exceptional women align perfectly with this year’s Women’s History Month theme ‘Moving Forward Together! Women Educating and Inspiring Generations.’ We all gained inspiration from hearing their stories as we continue to fight for our rights, knowing progress is not inevitable. I thank all of the panelists for joining us, and Senator Shelley Mayer for co-hosting this event with me to celebrate these amazing Westchester women.”
Senator Shelley Mayer said, “I was delighted to host this important panel discussion alongside my friend Majority Leader Andrea Stewart-Cousins. During every Women’s History Month, we recognize the hard work, intelligence, determination and dedication of women leaders in our community. This year, as we navigate hard times, it is more important than ever to remember the support we have around us and that together, we can overcome any difficulties that may arise. I thank Senate Majority Leader Stewart-Cousins for co-hosting this event and I thank the five incredible panelists for sharing their insight with the community.”
