Dr. Adam Bronstein
Dr. Adam Bronstein, a top administrator in the Mount Pleasant Central School District with more than 20 years of educational experience, has been selected as the next Superintendent of Schools for the Somers Central School District, the Somers Board of Education announced today.
Dr. Bronstein will be officially appointed at a Board of Education meeting at 7 p.m. tomorrow in Somers Middle School, 250 Route 202, Somers. He will begin July 1, 2025, taking the helm of the district of 2,600 students and four schools.
“Dr. Bronstein’s journey through numerous educational roles has equipped him with a vast array of skills and insights,” said Board of Education President Amanda Kandel. “His experiences in teaching, coaching, administrative leadership, and academic research position him uniquely to address the evolving needs of students and educators alike. His focus on teacher collaboration and professional development underscores his belief in the power of collective effort to enhance student outcomes. The Board is confident that Dr. Bronstein is an exemplary fit for our community and will continue to propel Somers forward in excellence.”
For the past six years he has served as Mount Pleasant’s director of curriculum and then assistant superintendent of curriculum, instruction and administrative services, his current position. He began in Mount Pleasant a decade ago as principal of Westlake Middle School.
At Westlake Middle School, he introduced the International Baccalaureate Middle Years Programme and Community Project as well as a coding course and a transition seminar for students rising from fifth to sixth grade. As a central administrator, he partnered with the Westlake High School principal to develop an AP capstone experience.
Before arriving in Mount Pleasant, he held education positions in the White Plains, Mamaroneck, Pelham and Ardsley school districts. He began his educational career in the Washington Heights section of New York City.
Dr. Bronstein holds a bachelor’s degree from the University of Virginia and Master of Science degrees from Pace University in elementary education and teaching and from Fordham University in education administration and supervision. He earned his Doctor of Education degree from the University of Pennsylvania in 2013.
The Somers Board of Education chose Dr. Bronstein after an extensive search that began with hiring the consultants School Leadership in August 2024. The board engaged the community in the process, seeking input from 81 community stakeholders in focus groups and town hall meetings and over 400 survey respondents to establish criteria for a top administrator. Based on the community input, the Board adopted a list of qualities for a new superintendent, seeking a diplomatic, visionary, thoughtful, approachable, courageous, and trustworthy leader.
When Dr. Bronstein becomes the Somers superintendent on July 1, he will take the helm of the district from Interim Superintendent Harry LeFevre, who has served since former Superintendent Dr. Ray Blanch left for another district last year.
“It has been a joy and a privilege to serve the Somers Central School District family,” LeFevre said. “Day after day, I have been heartened to see the innovation and devotion shown by our educators and the excitement on the faces of students eager to learn, explore and grow. I am heartened to know that I am leaving the district in the hands of an exceptional educational leader such as Dr. Bronstein.”
