So says former NY Governor Andrew Cuomo, who on Sept. 28, posted a video (linked above) in which he announced a podcast, and new PAC, and a tease at a political comeback.
The headline above comes from a Cuomo comment in the video in which he claimed that “democracy was in peril” in part because of the toxic climate on social media. “Social media has created a political Roman Colosseum that encourages the loud, the mean and the outrageous.”
“My intention is to speak the full truth — unvarnished — from the inside out, frank and candid, as a person who has been in the room many times, for many years and knows their games, and as a person who actually did the job. And the first step is to establish the facts. Not Democratic facts or Republican facts but actual facts.”
Cuomo, 64, said that he is doing what most people do in semi-retirement; enjoying time with his daughters and his mother, and hiking, fishing and his other hobby, restoring cars and motorcyles.
“I have fought the good fight in government and politics all my life, and I am not done fighting yet,” he said, leaving the door open to another run for office in the future.
Cuomo said that he will be launching a podcast in the near future. “This show will have different formats. But, more than anything, I want to have the conversation with you because it is about you and you having the right information and your political will to make a difference.”
Cuomo also announced a new Police Action Committee aimed at passing an assault weapons ban. Called, the “Gun Safe America Project,” Cuomo’s pack joins a number of non-profits and PAC’s here in NY and across the country supporting gun control.
The new PAC will also work “to elect the right people in office.” “We do not need more panderers, we need producers.”
Cuomo can us some or all of the $10 Million left in his campaign war chest from his three successful runs for Governor. He recently spent $2.8 Million in TV ads in a rehabilitation or sorts since he resigned his position in 2021 based on 11 accusations of sexual harassment.
While none of the accusations led to any criminal charges filed against him, two civil lawsuits were recently filed by two alleged victims and former employees of NYS and the Governor; Westchester resident Charlotee Bennett and an unnamed State Trooper has also filed suit against Cuomo.
Cuomo has filed an ethics complaint against NY Attorney General Letitia James for her investigation into the sexual harassement allegations made against him last year.
The vast majority of Americans agree with Cuomo on one thing: The “cancel culture” and the “mob” online and in the media, have made Cuomo and most Americans “very concerned about the state of our country.”
Whether or not the former Governor of New York can be that vehicle to change the toxic climate online and in our politics, remains to be seen.
