State Senator Shelley B. Mayer hosted a diaper donation drive to benefit the Westchester County Diaper Bank as part of her annual holiday party. Guests to the party were encouraged to bring a donation of diapers to support neighbors in need. Senator Mayer dropped off a total of 2,485 diapers to support families in need throughout Westchester County.

On average, a family spends roughly $1,000 per year on diapers for a single child.

According to the National Diaper Bank Network, in 2023, 47% of families reported they struggled to afford diapers and 46% reported they had to make financial sacrifices in other areas in order to afford diapers.

Senator Shelley B. Mayer said, “I am so grateful to live in a community that comes together to ensure all our neighbors have everything they need for the well-being of their families. This year, I asked guests to my holiday party to bring a donation of diapers, which my staff and I delivered directly to the Westchester County Diaper Bank. I am overwhelmed by the outpouring of support for our neighbors. Thank you to everyone who donated, and thank you to the Westchester Diaper Bank for providing this important necessity to Westchester families.”

Deborah Blatt, Executive Director of the Sharing Shelf, said, “We were thrilled that Senator Mayer organized this drive to support The Diaper Bank for Westchester! Diaper needs are on the rise across Westchester and this donation will help us ease the burden faced by many Westchester parents.”
