State Senator Shelley B. Mayer partnered with United Way of Westchester and Putnam Counties for her annual Back-To-School supply drive.
From July 16 through August 12, Senator Mayer and United Way collected donations at Bronxville Public Library, Grinton I. Will Yonkers Public Library, Mamaroneck Town Center, Pound Ridge Town house, and the Senator’s District Office in White Plains. Among the supplies were: backpacks, spiral notebooks, composition books, two-pocket folders, pencil cases, twelve-inch rulers, safety scissors, #2 pencils, ballpoint pens, colored pencils, crayons, pencil sharpeners, glue sticks, highlighters, pink erasers, and three-ring binders.
Senator Shelley Mayer joined United Way of Westchester and Putnam and their volunteers on Monday, August 17, to help pack the supplies for distribution.
Senator Shelley Mayer said, “Thank you to everyone who generously contributed to my back-to-school drive with United Way of Westchester and Putnam Counties. The beginning of the school year is an exciting time for students, but for many families in our community, school supplies are too expensive. I am grateful to live in a community that comes together to help ensure kids have the resources they need to start the school year off strong. Thank you to the Bronxville Public Library, Grinton I. Will Yonkers Public Library, Mamaroneck Town Center, and Pound Ridge Town House for serving as drop-off locations. Lastly, thank you to United Way of Westchester and Putnam for your commitment to our community and for partnering with me to ensure our students can start the school year with confidence.”
Tom Gabriel, President & CEO of United Way, highlighted the importance of the Back to School Drive, saying, “Affordability may be a buzz-word for some, but the United Way knows first-hand that more than 41% of our hard-working neighbors are struggling to make ends meet. As people deal with skyrocketing costs associated with necessities like food, gas, and clothing, the donations from this Back-To-School Drive will save hard-working families real money as they get their children ready for school.”
