Saint Joseph’s Medical Center announced a grant for $19.68 million from the New York State Department of Health’s Statewide Health Care Facility Transformation Program IV (SHCFTP IV) to renovate its operating rooms. The grant will enable the hospital to modernize its surgical facilities, improve patient outcomes, and expand services.
The grant was announced by Michael J. Spicer, President and Chief Executive Officer of Saint Joseph’s Medical Center, at a press conference held at the hospital and attended by State, County and City officials. Joining Spicer at the event were the following speakers: New York State Health Commissioner Dr. James McDonald; New York State Senate Majority Leader Andrea Stewart-Cousins; New York Assemblyman Nader Sayegh; Yonkers Mayor Mike Spano and Saint Joseph’s Medical Center Board of Trustees Chairman James Landy.
Saint Joseph’s Medical Center’s operating rooms will be renovated so patients don’t have to leave Yonkers to get cutting edge healthcare with the latest technology that results in superior outcomes and enhances the patient experience.
“Under Governor Hochul’s leadership and unwavering commitment to ensuring the health and well-being of all New Yorkers, investments like this will help New Yorkers receive quality care close to home,” said State Health Commissioner Dr. James McDonald said. “Modernizing Saint Joseph’s operating rooms will improve patient safety, expand access to advanced surgeries and strengthen the health of the Yonkers community.”
“This funding will allow us to take a monumental step forward for our hospital and the community we serve,” said Michael Spicer, President and Chief Executive Officer of Saint Joseph’s Medical Center. “With the renovation of our operating rooms, Saint Joseph’s Medical Center will further reduce healthcare disparities for the community we serve—now and in the future.”
In addition to improving patient safety, the renovations are expected to increase operational efficiency, reduce turnover times between surgeries, and allow the hospital to serve more patients. The project is also aimed at continuing to attract and retain highly skilled surgeons by providing them with best-in-class surgical equipment and technology. Construction is expected to be finished by 2029.
The New York State Department of Health’s Statewide Health Care Facility Transformation Program IV is providing nearly $300 million in new state funding in support of more than 50 projects aimed at expanding access to inpatient, primary, behavioral health, and long-term care services in underserved populations.
