
Sacred Heart HS Yonkers players and coaches celebrate their state championship win
Sacred Heart High School Yonkers defeated the Park school from Buffalo on March 8, 2025 to win it’s first CHSAA state championship in 30 years. Earlier, Sacred Heart defeated Regis to claim its first city title in three decades.
Sacred Heart was led by its two scoring leaders Kamryn Boyd 21 points, six rebounds on 9 for 18 shooting and Marcus Henry 21 points 13 rebounds on 10 for 17 shooting. Senior Jayden Mercado had 11 points and lead the team with seven assists
Sophomore Chase Henry had 12 points six rebounds and five assists. Toni Cima Junior had nine points two assists and four rebounds. Marion Morgan came off the bench for valuable minutes and had a game changing steel and basket.
Sacred Heart improved to 26 and 2, the best record in the school’s history. This was a homecoming for head coach, Stephen Marcellino, who started his coaching career at Fordham University as an assistant to the men’s varsity program.
When asked about this extraordinary year Coach Marcellino stated, “We set a goal at the Fordham team camp last June and that was to make it back to Rose Hill for a city and a state championship. All the credit to the players and our dedicated assistant coaches who made this happen. This is a great moment for our school.”
“I understand this is the first public or private school in Yonkers history, to win the state championship since the 1995 Sacred Heart team accomplished that.”
The City of Yonkers will honor the team on March 19, 2025 at a ceremony in City Hall at 4:15
One final game remains. Sacred Heart will play the PSAL champions for the CHSAA/ PSAL championship on March 23 at 1 PM at Long Island University.
