| On May 27, Westchester County District Attorney Susan Cacace announced that Scott Denet, 57, of Shrub Oak, was charged with two felonies in relation to his alleged possession and promotion of child sexual abuse material. Denet was arraigned Tuesday on a felony complaint charging him with Promoting an Obscene Sexual Performance by a Child, a class D felony, and Possessing an Obscene Sexual Performance by a Child, a class E felony. The defendant was released on his own recognizance pending further proceedings. He is due back in court on June 30. DA Cacace said: “Those who possess and share child sexual abuse material are not merely engaging in legally prohibited conduct, they are retraumatizing the victims depicted in those videos who still bear the scars of their abuse. My office works diligently with our partners at the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children to detect all forms of child sexual abuse on the internet and track down the individuals responsible for creating and promoting such material. If anyone in Westchester County endeavors to access these images, or tries to conceal their attempts to do so, we will find out, and we will hold you to account.” As alleged in a felony complaint, on or about July 31, 2025, the defendant, a retired captain with the Yonkers Fire Department, promoted an obscene sexual performance by a child by sharing a photograph depicting a nude female child on an application called “Thundr.” On April 24, 2026, the defendant allegedly possessed a video file of a nude female child engaging in sexual activity. NB: The defendant retired from service in April 2023, and the offense conduct described above is alleged to have been committed after his retirement. This case was investigated by the Hi-Tech Unit within the Westchester County District Attorney’s Office, the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children and the New York State Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force. The case is being prosecuted by Cyber Crimes Bureau Chief Michael Delohery. |
