Rappers Jadakiss & Styles P Celebrate Black History with A Taste of History

Join Majority Leader Stewart-Cousins, Senator Shelley Mayer and Chef Nikko for “A Taste of History” event Feb. 23

Live cooking demonstration focuses on healthy versions of traditional soul food recipes.

In keeping with this year’s Black History Month theme, “Black Health and Wellness,” State Senate Majority Leader Andrea Stewart-Cousins and State Senator Shelly Mayer are holding a Zoom cooking event on February 23 at 6 pm called “A Taste of History.” The Senators will be joined by two of New York’s most famous rappers, Jadakiss and Styles P, co-owners of Juices for Life, and Chef Nikko of Evanders Fish & Chips, both in Yonkers.

Virtual attendees are encouraged to cook along with Chef Nikko as he and the senators discuss the traditions of soul food in America and how healthy food can help people recharge themselves and maintain their well-being. The Chef will be preparing barbecue chicken, a vegetarian alternative and various sides. Those that register for the event will get a link to the list of the ingredients and recipes so that they can cook with Chef Nikko.

Senator Stewart-Cousins also visits Juices for Life, an organic juice bar owned by Jadakiss and Styles P. The group will discuss the importance of making fruits and vegetables affordable and convenient, while Juices for Life barista Hit prepares a healthy smoothie made of some of Stewart-Cousins’ favorite fruits, aptly dubbed “The Senator.”

In addition to Zoom, the event will also be streamed live on the Facebook pages of Senator Stewart-Cousins and Senator Mayer
