Post-Pandemic Weddings are Booming

The Abbey Inn & Spa is a boutique hotel & spa located within the converted St. Mary’s Convent at a historic Revolutionary War site within Peekskill, New York

The Abbey Inn & Spa’s grand ballroom, set in a converted church, will host many weddings this spring, summer and fall as social distancing restrictions lift.

April 7, 2021 (Peekskill, New York) – The Abbey Inn & Spa, one of the top new hotels of 2020, has seen its wedding bookings soar as mass vaccinations progress and social distancing rules ease.

For the warm weather months, couples are choosing to hold their cocktail hours and exchanges of wedding vows on the hotel’s lush grounds with commanding views of the Hudson River. Couples then have their dinners and dancing in the Highlands Ballroom.

“We’re seeing a peak demand for weddings in September and October, especially with the views of the Hudson River and the fall foliage,” said Eileen Whitney, The Abbey’s Inn’s director of catering, wedding & events specialist.

The Abbey Inn & Spa’s piece de resistance is the 2,183-square-foot Highlands Ballroom, set in the former church of the Convent of St. Mary. The Abbey Inn’s restoration lovingly preserved the sanctuary’s dramatic architectural features, including some of the stained-glass windows. The ballroom has a capacity up to 120 people and it is big enough to accommodate couples’ concerns about social distancing.

“Safety and cleanliness are really important to our clients, as well as ensuring that we stay within the Centers for Disease Control guidelines,” said Whitney.

Brides and grooms can book the Cellar Tasting Room, a combination wine cellar and dining room ideal for rehearsal dinners. Wedding parties can also enjoy a bit of pre-event pampering at the on-site spa or a round of golf at one of several nearby courses.

Wedding packages at The Abbey Inn include a luxury suite for the bride and groom and a 15% discount on up to 10 rooms for wedding guests, based on availability. The Abbey Inn also invites brides and grooms back to the hotel for their first-year anniversary.

Earlier this year the USA Today 10Best Readers’ Choice 2020 ranked The Abbey Inn & Spa #3 on its list, which cited the boutique hotel’s adaptive reuse of a former convent and its full-service spa, farm-to-table restaurant Apropos and luxurious suites.

The Abbey Inn & Spa’s staff was also awarded “The Knot Best of Weddings 2021” and the “Weddingwire Couples’ Choice Award 2021.”

The Knot Best of Weddings is an annual award that recognizes the top wedding vendors across the country. This prestigious honor represents the highest-rated vendors on The Knot who are trusted, dependable, and deliver quality service. Only the best wedding vendors (top 5%) receive this award.

The WeddingWire Couples’ Choice Awards recognize local wedding professionals who demonstrate excellence in quality, service, responsiveness, and professionalism. Winners are determined by the reviews from more than one million WeddingWire couples.

The Abbey Inn & Spa’s signature dining concept, Apropos, combines chef-driven cuisine with breathtaking views of the Hudson River. Helmed by Executive Chef John Paidas, this elevated, contemporary-American eatery features Mediterranean-influenced and locally sourced ingredients.

The spa is a 2,500-square-foot sanctuary featuring four tranquil treatment rooms, a relaxation room and an array of wellness-enhancing services. Every effort has been taken to honor the majesty of the building’s past while introducing 21st-century comfort.

Easily accessible to New York City and beyond, the city of Peekskill can be accessed via rail on Metro North, a mere one hour north of the city. Conveniently located between the Westchester County Airport (25-miles by car) and Stewart International Airport (24-miles), the city is also situated amidst a vibrant waterfront, including Riverfront Green Park with sculptures, a playground, and assorted dining options, theatres, and more.
