Philipse Manor Hall celebrates poetry of colonial New York

Philipse Manor Hall State Historic Site is pleased to present a celebration of poetry in the Colonial Period, taking place at the museum on Saturday, April 18 at 1:00 PM at the museum.

In this special program for National Poetry Month, join us as we explore poetry of the 17th and 18th centuries with special connections to the colony of New York and to the Philipse family. We’ll read and discuss historic poetry from New Netherland, Colonial New York, and the American Revolution. Explore the poetry of Anne Bradstreet, Jacob Steendam, John Dickinson, Philis Wheatley, and more, as well as period verses about Peter Stuyvesant, Margaret Philipse, George Washington, and Banastre Tarleton, to name a few.

Tickets are $3-$6/person, pay at the door. Tickets include museum admission. Pre-registration is recommended, but not required. To register, call 914-965-4027 or email philipsemanorhall@parks.ny.gov. You can find directions, transportation, and parking information here.
