Pelham Author Pens Children’s Book in Support of Firefighters

Pelham author Jeanne LaSala-Taylor has written a just-released children’s book, “Just Bunny and the Great Fire Rescue.” Based on a true story of her daughter’s stuffed bunny being rescued from a burning building, this book provides a special thanks to firefighters everywhere for saving lives – and stuffed bunnies, too.

LaSala-Taylor was also rescued from a fire in her apartment building in 2007, and wrote this book in recognition of the service and sacrifice of the brave men and women of the FDNY. Part of the proceeds from the sale of this book will benefit the New York Firefighters Burn Center Foundation.

“Just Bunny” is Francesca’s right-hand stuffy who has been with her through thick and thin since day one. Nothing can tear these two apart – except, maybe, a fire. Thankfully, one of New York’s bravest is on the scene to prove that selfless acts of kindness happen every day.

“This book was written as a thank you to the brave men and women of the FDNY and to all firefighters everywhere who put their lives on the line for the safety of others and the protection of their homes, churches, offices, and cherished belongings,” said LaSala-Taylor, whose story is complimented by illustrations by Ana Sebastian. “As those of us who have been rescued from a fire know, no price can ever match your contribution to society. Thank you for your service.”

The author said she plans to expand “Just Bunny” into a series highlighting the people and organizations that help keep New York City safe and strong. Although essentially New York-based stories, these books hope to inspire respect and gratitude for firefighters, police officers, and public servants everywhere.

LaSala-Taylor was recently featured on BBC Radio and in the Larchmont Ledge, and has book signing events scheduled Jan. 25 at Anderson’s Bookshop in Larchmont and Feb. 1 at Greenwich House Music School in New York .

“‘Just Bunny and the Great Fire Rescue’ will be part of our fire prevention program for the way it encourages children to respect and trust firefighters everywhere, whether it be a large city or a small village,” said Larchmont Fire Chief John Caparelli. “Helping people – and bunnies – is our life’s work.”
