Once again, the Yonkers community stepped up to help almost 400 families in need last week.

On Aug. 28, Yonkers Mayor Mike Spano and Yonkers Housing Authority President Wilson Kimball announced that “earlier today, Con Edison altered the Yonkers Housing Authority (YHA) of several gas leaks in systems servicing Palisades Towers. as a result, Con Ediison has cut gas service to the 415 units located at the Palisades Towers for safety precautions. This will result in the loss of hot water and cooking gas for all residents for an undetermined amount of time.

“The City and YHA will make microwaves available starting Aug. 30. Temporary boilers have been secured and will supply units with hot water by Sept. 3. We have been in continous contact with Gov. Hochul, along with our state elected officials to ensure all possible resources are secured.”

Local business, including Stew Leonard’s (385 Food bags for each apartment) Bagel Land, Gino’s Pizzeria, Dunwoodie Pizzeria & Restaurant, Dos Marias NY, Homefield Deli and Tio Nacho made donations to the affected residents.
