Congratulations to the boys basketball team on winning the first ever Lou Larizza Memorial Tournament at Port Chester HS. In the first round on Friday afternoon, the boys won over Yonkers High by a final score of 64-43. Deneli McIntosh led all scorers with 18 points, Xavier Merrill had 15 points and 16 rebounds and Jalen Brown 12 points and 10 rebounds.
The Phoenix returned to Port Chester on Saturday night for the championship game versus the host Rams. In a crazy game they Phoenix won by a final score of 50-49. Deneli McIntosh was named Tournament MVP scoring 21 points in the Championship game. The team also had great effort from Louis Martinez who was named all-tournament team scoring 12 points in the title game. In addition, the Phoenix had great contributions from Miguel Gonzalez & Yashua Martin.
The team went 2-1 in the first week of the season. The lost their season opener on Monday at Hastings High School with a final score of 56-53. The team is back in action this week in the Yonkers City Tournament. On Monday December 13th, the Phoenix host Yonkers Montessori Academy in the first round of the tournament. The winner will go to the semi-finals at Lincoln HS on Wednesday December 13th. The finals will be at Lincoln High School on Saturday December 18th. The boys final is scheduled to start at 4pm.
