From the YPD –TRAFFIC UPDATE
As of 2:00PM on 2/4/24, all roads are now reopened.
We thank you for your patience during this inconvenient repair.
Just after 10:30pm on Friday, February 2nd, the Yonkers Police Department received a report of a one-vehicle accident at the junction of Cook, Mile Square, and Homewood Avenues.
The driver (and sole occupant) of the vehicle had removed himself from the vehicle prior to arrival of first responders. He suffered a minor injury and was transported to an area hospital for evaluation in stable condition. At this time there is no criminal investigation into this incident; it is being investigated as an accident.
It appears that this vehicle lost control and struck 1-2 utility poles, coming to rest on its side at that intersection. The damage to the utility poles caused wires and one of the poles to fall on the vehicle.
Due to the complexity of removing this vehicle from the scene, we are awaiting utility companies to respond with the proper equipment to remove and repair the poles and wires, which will then allow a tow company to safely remove the vehicle. Until that time, the vehicle will have to remain on scene with an extended road closure due to safety precautions.
We are told this repair could take until the end of today to be completed. As of now, and until further notice, the following road closures are in effect:
Mile Square Road from Little John Place to Elaine Terrace
Cook Avenue from Little John Place to Brynwood Road
We will be sure to update this post as this incident progresses to advise on continuing road closures. In the meantime, it is advised to avoid the area.
We apologize for any inconvenience.
