October is Bullying Awareness Month:
Bullying is a community-wide issue that we can’t continue to ignore or think of as a harmless rite of passage. On Thursday, October 17, the Joseph Gabriel Foundation’s Stop and Mentor Program, proudly supported by Mayor Mike Spano, hosted an impactful anti-bullying event titled Unity Day at the Yonkers Public Library branch. This event aimed to raise awareness and foster a sense of community against bullying, making it a vital initiative for our youth.This is a featured event during National Bullying Prevention Month with a simple call to action: Pledge to be together against bullying and united for kindness, acceptance and inclusion.Wear and share orange to send a visible message of building community and taking stand against bullying in schools.
The turnout was impressive, with numerous heartfelt moments shared. It was truly inspiring to see so many young people, including children as young as two, eager to take a stand against bullying by signing our pledge. This shows that our community values kindness and unity, and together, we can make a difference in the lives of our youth.We are sharing this story in order to inspire others to host more Anti Bullying Unity events in Yonkers.
