On his return trip to Shoprite, store security was able to ID Catequet and call the Yonkers Police.
Many retailers are using this same form of Artificial Intelligence to catch repeat offenders. Some businesses have placed signs at their entrance which reads, “This Business collects, retains, converts, stores, or shares customers’ biometric identifier information, which is information that can be used to identify or help identify you.”
While this sign is not place at the Shoprite on Tuckahoe Road, other supermarkets like Fairway and large retailers like Walmart have promoted their use of AI to help reduce shoplifting and deter shoplifters.
The Shoprite on Tuckahoe Road is the largest drop location of Yonkers Rising, with more than 1,200 copies grabbed each week.
