WESTCHESTER, N.Y. — The WNBA team New York Liberty has announced its new home for the 2018 season – and it is the Westchester County Center in White Plains. This is the first time in more than two decades that a professional sports league has called Westchester home.
“I am excited to have the New York Liberty play here in Westchester at the County Center,” said County Executive George Latimer. “The games will not only benefit our economy, but also provide great entertainment for the people of Westchester. Personally I can’t wait to head over to the County Center and cheer them on.”
New York Liberty President Isiah Thomas added: “MSG has had a very positive experience at the Westchester County Center and believes it is a venue where the Liberty can extend our fan base while maintaining our roots at The Garden.”
Westchester County Commissioner of Parks Recreation and Conservation Kathy O’Connor called this “a wonderful opportunity for the young women of Westchester to see the Liberty team as strong female role models.”
The Liberty will tip off the 2018 WNBA season Sunday, May 20 when it travels to the Chicago Sky at 7 p.m. New York’s 2018 home opener at Westchester County Center will be against the Minnesota Lynx on Friday, May 25 at 7:30 p.m.
New York will play 15 home games at Westchester County Center and two games at Madison Square Garden. The Liberty will host the Phoenix Mercury at The Garden on Tuesday, June 5 at 11 a.m., and the Seattle Storm on Monday, Aug. 6 at 11 a.m.
