NY Attorney General James’ Office to Host Gun Buyback Event in Peekskill Nov. 16

A prior gun buyback by NYAG James’ office

On Saturday, November 16th, from 10:00 AM – 1:00 PM, New York Attorney General Letitia James and the New York State Police, Peekskill Police Department, Westchester District Attorney’s Office, and the Peekskill chapter of the NAACP will host a community gun buyback event at the United Methodist Church of Peekskill in Peekskill, located at 1040 Main Street, Peekskill NY 10566.

This event is part of Attorney General James’ ongoing effort to help protect New York communities from gun violence and to keep families safe. The Office of the Attorney General (OAG) accepts – with no questions asked – working and non-working unloaded firearms in exchange for compensation on site. The OAG provides money in the form of prepaid gift cards when a gun is received and secured by law enforcement officers on site.

The OAG will be providing the following amount for firearms turned in on site:

  • $500 per assault rifle
  • $250 per handgun
  • $75 per rifle or shotgun
  • $25 per non-working, replica, antique, homemade, or 3D printed gun

*Anyone bringing homemade or 3D printed guns will be paid a total of $25, regardless of how many are turned in.

The guns must be transported to the drop-off site unloaded, in the trunk of the vehicle, in a plastic or paper bag, or box. This is an amnesty program, in which no questions will be asked about the person dropping off the gun. If the person is surrendering firearms that must be removed from a permit, an ID and a pistol, rifle, or shotgun permit must be presented.

If you require an accommodation to participate in a program, service, or activity of our office, please contact our ADA Administrator at ADA.administrator@ag.ny.gov, preferably 48 hours before the event.
